For General Practice, the current advice is that patients with respiratory symptoms who attend for assessment and treatment should wear a face mask/covering if tolerated. All other patients are not required to wear a face mask but can do so if preferred; thus, previous guidance that all patients, unless exempt, should wear masks in healthcare settings is no longer in force.

Healthcare staff are recommended to continue to wear facemasks when with patients where untriaged patients may present.

Staff are not required to wear masks in non-clinical areas, in offices or social settings, unless this is their personal preferences or indicated as appropriate after a risk assessment.
